1/8" Beveled/Gridded Rulers
There are two rulers Paula recommends and the truth is we find ourselves using both so we recommend both too. She has you make an arrow on the top of the ruler with the Pilot pen, pointing to the beveled edge. It is great help!

Visi-GRID Quilter's Template Sheets
1/8" gridded plastic templates

A product developed and now recommended by Paula! This is also recommended by her students as well. Paula's students came to us first and told us we needed to begin to carry these gridded plastic templates and that we needed to find out what they were from Paula.

As soon as we picked up the phone to ask Paula, she called - great minds think alike. She wanted to tell us about this great new gridded plastic template sheet she created with Visi-GRID.

The grid lines are easy to read, consistent, easy to cut, they're non-slip, crack resistant AND is glare free because it is a matte-finish vinyl.

There are 4 sheets to a package. We find it take 4 to make a block.

Thread Cutter Pendant
by Clover

From Clover, this attractive Pendant is also a thread cutter. Paula Nadelstern has been wearing it around her neck for travel so she can continue to stitch without carrying scissors. She reports it passes security checks with no problems.

The attractive exterior houses a sharp circular blade. It can be set on top a thread spool or used as a pendant. There is a matching decorative and fuctionally superior needle threader and small enough to be superb for travel. To see it, Click Here.

We know people who hang both of these on a ribbon, then around their neck so they can't get away from them.

Colorscope - Color Selector
Although this is actually a Kaleidoscope, what we love about it is you can look at a stack of fabric (or anything else) and see what the colors look like mixed together. We think it is perfect for quilters. We first sold 2 - to a grandmother (quilter): one for her and one for her grandaughter. Won't they have fun with together! (It is 5 1/4" long and 5/8" in diameter.)

Fabricadabra - Simple Quilts Complex Fabrics
At last!!! We've all been waiting for Paula Nadelstern to come write a new book and she has - yippee! Below is the description the publisher has put out. Once we have the actual book in hand (oh we can't wait) - we'll provide you with any other additional information.

Imagine a traditional quilt, its ordinary shapes gift wrapped with intricate fabrics. Celebrated author, teacher, and fabric designer Paula Nadelstern shows you how to design simple but stunning quilts with the help of vivacious fabric prints.

She helps to show you how to analyze fabrics to uncover their piecing potential for color and symmetry. Make your own cutting templates and learn how to get the “seemingly seamless” look made famous by Paula’s kaleidoscopic quilts. Example piecing diagrams show just how easy it is to quilt a visual spectacle.

To sum the book up in her own words - Simple, her definition - "easily understood or done." However it does not mean that it is easy to execute. She just hopes through this book that you will come away with an overall understanding of her piecing concepts. She offers guidelines not specific direction.

There is a lot here and it is fabulous!

• Fabricadabra! Discover your fabric’s hidden potential and sew complex-looking quilts that are easy to piece with industry leader Paula Nadelstern.
• Understand symmetry in fabrics and fool the eye with daring design strategies.
• Fussy cut prints to perfection with self-drafted templates and camouflage seams for luminous effects.

Kaleidoscopes & Quilts
Available "Print On Demand." Order this book, and we will be able to deliver it to you with 2-3 weeks because it is printed as it is ordered. The print quality will vary from the original edition because they are printed on uncoated (non-glossy) paper and the color may appear more saturated. Information presented is the same as the most recent printed edition. However, if applicable, pattern pullouts have been separated and presented as single pages.

This is Paula Nadelstern's first book. Kaleidoscope - the very word promises surprise and magic, chance and change. Exploding with visual excitement, a kaleidoscope design organizes an abundance of light, color, form, and motion into a complex and coherent image, capturing a moment of infinity. This book is jammed with how-to's and why-not's, process and product, and an abundance of text and photos that explains elements of design and technique for creating the multifaceted, luminous, and random nature of a kaleidoscope's interior on the flat surface of a quilt.

The kaleidoscope configuration and its symmetrical repetition allows the quiltmaker to explore a variety of design possibilities using intricately printed fabric. With Paula as your guide, you will find that making kaleidoscope quilts is like making magic with fabric

Tower One Pattern & Kit
In the tradition of American patchwork, the basic block in this quilt was designed to commemorate the rebuilding of the World Trade Center - Tower One. The actual building, Tower One, consists of simple symmetries. Architecturally, it is a square that becomes and octagon that becomes a square. The quilt block, Tower One, is shaped like its namesake. Within this class you will explore bilaterally symmetrical fabric and the different effects you can create with it through unique machine piecing and template making techniques.

This pattern was originally made using the Dragon Feathers design from Paula's Patternista collection. However sadly that fabric is no longer available.

BUT as one customer did point out we now have Dragonettes from the new Kismet Collection! So if you want to recreate this using the Dragonettes - you can. In fact you wouldn't need quite so much fabric because the Dragonettes is a smaller reproduction of the original. The Dragonettes repeat is only 8".

The pattern shows you how to make 4 different sizes: A wall/lap quilt, 39" x 50 1/4"; the Long Wall quilt, 39" x 72 3/4"; Twin bed, 56 1/4 x 90"; and a Queen size bed, 78 3/4" x 101 1/4". Paula has even taught classes making it only 36" square.

The pattern includes instructions to make all four sizes along with a template to make the block. You only need 4 fabrics such as:

We have put together three kits for the Wall/lap quilt size using the Dragonettes as the featured fabric. If you wish to make it larger, contact us, cotton@cottonclub.com. The kit includes enough fabric to make the top and the binding. The pattern is sold separately, the backing is optional.

Olfa Rotary Blades and Cutters
Why are there so many sizes of rotary cutters? As our skills and needs changed, Olfa responded to them.

Which cutter do I need? If you are just getting started, the 45mm (slightly larger than a US silver dollar) is the most versatile. It cuts comfortably and accurately through 8 to 10 layers of fabric, as well as two. For jobs bigger, the 60MM is designed for the job.

In general, use the smallest cutter that will do the job! By doing so you will spend less money on blades, use less energy and preserve your physical well-being. If you use the BIG cutter for a small job, it takes more energy and pressure (contributing to repetitive motion syndrome - RMS). We often see this in quilt shops and worry that customers then think it is the right thing to do. If you wearout or ding a 60MM blade (over $10.00 each) cutting through two layers, just think it could have been a $2.60 blade. On the other hand when you need to cut through more layers, nothing does it with more accuracy and less energy than the BIG cutter.

Over time, collect them all and use the smallest one that will do the job!
(Remember one blade included with cutter! 28MM about size of a US quarter and 18MM the size of a US nickel and great for freehand cutting one layer, i.e. appligue.)

Mirror Tiles
Two 4x5" mirrored acrylic tiles joined so they will sit on fabric. These are great to use when thinking about doing some sort of kaleidoscope quilt. Move it across and around the fabric and see what happens.

They allow you to see a motif repeated and give you an idea of what the center of your block will look like. It is hard to photograph mirrors so we set them on this fabric. Hopefully, you it gives the visual idea of its use. For storage, the mirrors lay flat.

Take a look at the video to see how you would use these mirrors - fun arent' they?!

Quilt Needle Threader
From Clover, this terrific needle threader is not only the best we have found, but it is attractive. We suggest you wear it! When you need it you will know where to find it. The black back plate protects the wire and makes it easier to see - an unexpected benefit. Furthermore, is it designed for small needles. Definitely our favorite!!

There is a match decorative and fuctional thread cutter with a circular blade that can be set on top a thread spool or used as a pendant. We know people who hang both of these on a ribbon, then around their neck so they can't get away from them and find them superb for travel. To see it, Click Here.
